Recycle today for a better environment tomorrow
By: Raquelle Allen
Reduce, reuse, recycle! Every year on Nov. 15, millions of people across the United States engage in America Recycles Day. The national dispatch of America Recycles Day was on Nov. 15, 1997. National Recycles Day was constructed to boost awareness about recycling as well as the purchasing of recycled commodities. Recycling not only assists cleaning up the community, but also helps clean up the earth.
“The purpose- where I start - is the idea of use. It
is not recycling, it’s reuse.” -Issey Miyake
We all live on the earth; let us help in any way we
can to keep it clean. Inspire others to reduce,
reuse and recycle not just on National Recycles
Day, but every day!

PCHS delivers the meaning behind Thornton Wilder's Our Town
By: Brianna White
The PCHS theater department performed Thornton Wilder's Our Town Nov. 8 and 9 in the PCHS auditorium. The minimalist setting of Our Town allowed for the audience to interpret the meaning rather than focus on the props of the play. Ms. Sanders, the theater and chorus department teacher, is very proud of the students. Ms. Sanders said, "If you see any of them in the hallways or around town, be sure to encourage them that their hard work paid off. Thank you to the cast and crew of Our Town. You used theater to make a positive difference in the lives of our Perquimans town."
Honoring our Veterans
By: Cortez Knight
Veterans Day is an annual
federal holiday on the Nov. 11
in the United States that
recognizes and honors all
former service men and
women who have served in
the military. The
Biology/Physical Science
teacher, Kam Mueller, is known
as a veteran at PCHS. He
served approximately 25 years
from the early 1980s until
2005. Coming from Germany,
his job was to be a German speaker in East Germany. He went through various training such as basic, medical, and airborne. Mr. Mueller said, “No one rises to low expectations," which he heard from our principal, Mr. Price, 15 years ago. If you are considering joining the military after high school, please contact our school counselor, Mr. Manning, about taking the ASVAB test in December.
Choose a part in National Kindness Day
By: Dahlia Williams
National World Kindness Day is a day celebrated on Nov. 13 every year by doing random, but effective, acts of kindness for your peers. This holiday was introduced in 1988 by the World Kindness Movement and is seen to be the beginning step to making this world a better place. One small act of kindness and care can change someone’s life. Kindness can be made a natural way of life.

Grab a book on Young Readers Day
By: Jayda White
National Young Readers Day takes place
on the second Tuesday of November.
On National Young Readers Day, parents
can share the day with their
children as a way to get rid of
technology and social media. Young
Readers Day started in 1889. Pizza Hut
and the Center for the Book in the Library
of Congress created this national holiday
to encourage young readers to read,
expand their minds and live long, happy
and successful lives. Becca R. Levy, a
researcher from the School of Public Health
said, “People who read a lot have a higher
survival rate than those who don’t read.”
Give thanks for this holiday
By: Sean Hardee
Thanksgiving is one of the most commercialized holidays marking the start of the holiday season and Black Friday. Thanksgiving goes back 400 years to the first colonists at Plymouth Rock. In 1621 the famous feast occurred between the colonists and Native Americans. What many people do not know is that Thanksgiving was not an official holiday until 1789 when the first President, George Washington, formally proclaimed a national
day of Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving is a
holiday for Americans
to feast and give
thanks. America's
northern neighbor,
Canada, also
celebrates Thanksgiving under a different name, "Action de grace," which is European. It is a celebration of the Fall harvest.
